The tree is Black Walnut (Juglans nigra), but before the Walnuts are ripe they are green. This is the stage of harvest while the medicinal constituents are at their highest. The black walnut is covered with a green pulp until autumn, when it falls to the ground and turns black. Black Walnut Hull is the shell, or coating of the nut inside. Black Walnut is a classic anthelmintic herb, killing parasites, bacteria, fungus, and more. It has an affinity for the thyroid and is helpful with constipation.
