Description
Cascara Sagrada Bark Powder, Wild harvested, 1oz. bag
Frangula purshiana
This aged bark is a mild laxative that affects the colon, spleen, stomach, and liver. The bitterness stimulates the digestive secretions of the gastrointestinal system including the liver, gallbladder, stomach, and pancreas. It is considered one of the safest tonic-laxative herbs and can be used on a daily basis for chronic constipation if necessary. It is also useful for colitis, hemorrhoids, liver failure, and jaundice.
Cascara sagrada is a large shrub found in the Pacific Northwest and western Canada. The plant was given its common name meaning “sacred bark” by Spanish missionaries who were awed after witnessing the herb’s effectiveness. Traditionally, Frangula purshiana was utilized by indigenous tribes for its healthful properties and as an occasional, mild laxative. Our cascara sagrada powder is milled from bark after one year of aging and can be made into tablets or used in extract making. The herb is harvested in the form of quills and pieces of bark, allowed to age at least a year before use in laxative preparations. Cascara sagrada is never to be used fresh and must be aged for at least a year to break down its anthrone chemicals.
Sold in 1oz. quantities. If you want multiple ounces, just add multiple quantities.
Suggested Use: The tea is taken once per day, strictly at bedtime.
We also sell Cascara Sagrada Bark in cut and sifted form if you are looking for a non-powdered form.
